S.R. 4.42, S.S. 9.20

Played a tennis match against Horsley Towers & lost 1-6 matches. There was a thunder storm in the middle of the match. I fagged* on the hard court.

Diary entry June 20th 1936

Diary footnote, accompanying a photograph of a French Bulldog: FRENCH BULLDOG. Opinions are divided as to the origin of these intriguing little dogs, some authorities stating that he is the result of a cross between the English Bulldog and the Pug, while others maintain that he is the descendant of a neglected but authentic breed known in Southern France and Spain as the Dogue de Bordeaux. The type seems to vary in the straightness or otherwise of the forelegs, but the ‘bat’ ear are distinctive. Weight should not exceed 20lbs.
