Diary sub-note: 1870. Bombardment of Strasburg Played tennis. Went to see “Rhodes of Africa.” Met Mrs Milnes. Had tea at the Cadena by myself. Took 6.15 bus back. Mummie bought a “Hillman” car.

Diary sub-note: 1850. Balzac, French novelist, died Went to see Mrs Graham in the morning. Went to tea with Mrs Milnes. Saw Mrs Kennedy. Wrote to Anne Bourne. Mrs Milnes gave me a lovely picture of David.
