Diary sub-note: Partridge shooting begins1870. Capitulation of SudanFull Moon; 1.37 p.m. Issue of 1st Edward VIII stamps came out. I bought some. Went for a walk with Doreen & Victor. Moved on to St Olaves for the night via Yarmouth. Joy was not very well all day.

August 27th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1916. Roumania entered the war Had breakfast at the Swan Hotel, Horning, & lunch at the “Little Guest House” Horning. Moved on to Potter Heigham & stopped for tea at St Bennet’s Abbey ruins on the way. Looked over the ruins. Little Jeanie’s birthday. 1 year old.

August 26th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1915. Fall of Brest-Litovsk Spent the day at Horning. Had lunch at the “Swan Hotel”. Muriel & Joy went to play golf. I bathed. Muriel, Daddie & I went for a walk & picked blackberries & honeysuckle. Andy took Muriel, Daddy, Joy & I to see “A cup of kindness” with Tom Walls

Diary sub-note: S. Bartholomew1914. Fall of Namur Joy & daddie went to Horning. Andy, Muriel & I went for a walk to Salhouse. Daddie, Muriel & Andy went for a walk in the afternoon. Joy & I had on the gramophone & I went to pick blackberries.

Diary sub-note: 11th [Sunday] after Trinity1914. Japan declared war on Germany Spent the day at Salhouse. Joy, Muriel & I went exploring. Joy & I bathed before breakfast.

August 22nd 1936

Diary sub-note: 1914. Battle of CharleroiS.R. 5.56, S.S. 8.9 Went to Great Salhouse broad. Bathed in the afternoon. Joy & I tracked daddie, And & Muriel on a walk. Diary footnote, accompanying a photograph of a Japanese Spaniel: THE JAPANESE SPANIEL. These little dogs have been known in this country for at least a hundred

Diary sub-note: 1199. Richard I killed Went for a walk with Mummie & Yandi in the morning. Shot in the afternoon & did very badly. Uncle Mac came back from Prague.

August 19th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1870. Bombardment of Strasburg Played tennis. Went to see “Rhodes of Africa.” Met Mrs Milnes. Had tea at the Cadena by myself. Took 6.15 bus back. Mummie bought a “Hillman” car.

August 18th 1936

Diary sub-note: 1850. Balzac, French novelist, died Went to see Mrs Graham in the morning. Went to tea with Mrs Milnes. Saw Mrs Kennedy. Wrote to Anne Bourne. Mrs Milnes gave me a lovely picture of David.

Diary sub-note: 1914. British Expeditionary Force landed in FranceNew Moon, 4.21 a.m. Went over to Marlow to see Granny. Had tea at the “Complete[sic] Angler” Hotel at Marlow. Had a letter from Anne Bourne.
